As Executive Vice President, Unscripted Development, Jenny Groom is responsible for leading creative development and working with the Los Angeles Productions Unscripted team, in collaboration with leading producers in the U.K, to conceive original content ideas and build hit formats for BBC Studios’ fast-growing unscripted production business
Groom boasts an impressive track record building and leading some of the nation’s biggest unscripted hits across both broadcast and streaming. She brings a wealth of industry expertise to BBC Studios, built during her highly accomplished two decade long tenure at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming where she oversaw all competition formats across the company’s portfolio, including NBC, Peacock, Bravo, E!, and USA Network. While in this role, she worked with BBC Studios on the U.S. reboot of the Emmy-nominated hit game show Weakest Link hosted by Jane Lynch, which Groom commissioned.
Before joining BBC Studios, Groom served as Executive Vice President of Unscripted Programming at NBCUniversal, where she commissioned ground-breaking formats The Traitors and Love Island which became international mega hits. Under her leadership, The Voice was crowned the most-watched TV show of the decade and America’s Got Talent was the most-watched unscripted summer series. Password, hosted by Keke Palmer and Baking It with Amy Poehler were commissioned under Groom’s direction. She launched and oversaw That’s My Jam hosted by Jimmy Fallon. Fan favorites American Ninja Warrior and The Wall were also part of her prolific portfolio at NBC.
Groom previously held the position of Senior Vice President, Unscripted Programming at NBCUniversal. In this role, she shaped and launched new formats including Titan Games with Dwayne Johnson and the Emmy nominated World of Dance with Jennifer Lopez. In her earlier roles at NBCUniversal, Groom was responsible for Little Big Shots and the Emmy-nominated hit game show Ellen’s Game of Games. Before assuming leadership roles in the Unscripted division, she worked in NBC’s Scripted department.
Groom fostered, supported and expanded NBCUniversal’s talent portfolio, including relationships with Kelly Clarkson, Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Ariana Grande, Blake Shelton and John Legend.
Most recently she was a creative consultant and executive producer working with high-profile production companies, including Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and Kevin Hart’s Hartbeat Productions, where she worked closely with the leadership teams to build out their development strategy, identify key areas of growth to drive new business and pursue creative partnerships.
